On why I've shut down comments on my videos
Comments on my videos generally fall into definable categories. Personally, I find them distracting.
I don't make videos for dopamine hits nor am I interested in monetising my channel, so I rarely pay any mind to the number of view or subscribers, or any other metric. I make videos on what I consider needs expressing.
However, being human, I'd get curious whenever I'd saw a notification of a new comment. And here are the patterns I've noticed:
1. Folk who encourage and write supportive comments, but rarely address the substance of the content.
[My broad response: Thank you for your encouraging and kind words.]
2. Folk who want to bring my attention to (i) where I'm wrong, or (ii) another source they think I should be considering, or (iii) their opinion and pet theories.
[My broad response: I appreciate your input, however, I've been in this space for over forty years and covered a lot (A LOT) of philosophical and metaphysical and spiritual territory. I am comfortable with the wisdom I've accumulated and life-tested for validity. My ongoing education and guidance comes trusted sources, not from unknown characters, who may be human ... or not.
Further ... if you have such strong ideas yourself, MAKE YOUR OWN VIDEOS!]
3. Folk who comment on the professionalism (or lack thereof) on my delivery and on technical shortcomings like sound and lighting quality.
[My broad response: I'd rather be messy and real than professionally polished. Additionally, I don't have the space for a professional set-up, and I like the immediacy of just hopping on camera when the inclination strikes. ... and, it's just me who does the editing, and all I focus on is getting it done in a good-enough manner.]
4. Folk who comment on my state of mind, quality of character, and are just being trollish.
[My broad response: 😎 ]
So to pre-empt wasting my energy and yours, I've chosen to turn the comments off. This IS something that I've learned from Dante.
